WELCOME TO CIMP

The "International Commission of the Palaeozoic Microflora" or "Commission Internationale de la Microflore du Paléozoique" (CIMP) is an international federation of palynologists interested in Palaeozoic palynology.
The commission aims to advance knowledge of palynology and related subjects by the promotion of international co-operation and meetings between scientists of all regions and countries.
To this end the CIMP arranges symposia and working groups which deal with various stratigraphical and taxonomic problems in Palaeozoic palynology.
The CIMP-SaudiAramco Project presented papers to the TPS/AASP Annual Meeting in Rabat, 2025
CESARI, C., VECOLI, M., LANFRANCHI, A. & HUGHES, G. A marine palynological assemblage from the Late Ordovician of Saudi Arabia.
CLAYTON, G. & VECOLI, M. Acritarch Palynomorph Darkness Index (PDI) - calibration to vitrinite reflectance (VRo) and applications.
MARSHALL, J.,ZHU, H., BREUER, P. & SHAWAREB, A. Archaeoperisaccus indistinctus as a key indicator of Devonian palaeogeography.
STROTHER, P., VECOLI, M., CESARI, C. & WELLMAN, C.H. New species of zygnemataceae from the Late Ordovician of Saudi Arabia: implications for plant evolution.
TAYLOR, W.A., STROTHER, P., WELLMAN, C.H. & VECOLI, M. On the nature of cryptospore tetrad and dyad enclosures.
WELLMAN, C.H., STEEMANS, P., STROTHER, P.K. & VECOLI, M. The end-Ordovician glacial sediments of Saudi Arabia: two palynological conundrums investigated.

CIMP provided travel grants to three international students to attend the
15th IPC-IOPC in Prague
Here's what they said:
Eiver Gelan Manzano
The CIMP travel grant enabled me to attend the IPC/IOPC in Prague last year. As a Filipino student in France, this was the first time I presented my work in an international setting. It was a little bit daunting but this gave me the confidence to communicate scientific results, later on in workshops and other conferences. It was also inspiring to see what other students and renowned experts are working on, and to make connections with the who's-who of palynology. Hopefully the CIMP will continue this excellent tradition of financially supporting students, helping them gain a global perspective of the field and give them a foothold to make their own scientific contribution. Mabuhay* to CIMP, and more power!
*Filipino expression meaning "more life," used to exhort exemplary individuals or organizations.
Carolina Klock Campos Ferreira
The CIMP travel grant was instrumental in covering my accommodation costs in Prague during the IPC/IOPC conference. Receiving the grant in advance was particularly valuable, as many hotels require prepayment. Academically, this conference was one of the most enriching experiences of my PhD journey. I had the unique opportunity to attend lectures by Paleozoic experts and gain new insights into Silurian forms of life, including chitinozoans, particularly interesting to me. Additionally, the conference provided an excellent platform for connecting with researchers from around the world. I continue to engage in scientific discussions with them and receive updates on lectures and postdoctoral opportunities. I’m grateful for the opportunity and look forward to continuing to build on what I have learned.
Reports on their presentations can be found in the 2025 CIMP Newsletter
